If you do not use it you lose it. That is so true particulary in the world of nursing. Better yet , in the world of nurse practitioner
Okay. Where do I start?
I want to find a refresher course to update my previously learned skills. (of long time ago). So many years of not using them I have completely lost it. I have been a critical care nurse in the early 90's then worked as an NP in multiple outpaient settings. Though in betweenn I maintained my skills by working per diem in ER. I was also teacheing NCLEX RN on weekends. So there, I think I had it all. But then conflict in the schedule took the better hold off my schedule so I decided to focus on one job and spend more time with my son.
So after years of working as NP doing consultsI wanted to go to the playing field . I was yearning for more knowledge and even decided to go back to school. I have Master's degree in adult primary and heriatric advance practice. But doing one specialty field I believe have stunted my growth , so to speak. And now that I want to explore something different means I have to take on new skills and revisit what I have learned before.
It also takes a lot from a person when one needs to broaden ones horizon.
Obviously taking on a new job requires me to be familiar with my old skills and acquire new skills.Of course the best is to go back to school which I plan but not now.
It takes money and TIME to make extra money. Neither one I do not have right now.Practice, practice, practice is the best way to be sharp on skills. But where do you practice them if they are NOT usually part of your current job. Or if your exposure to them is currently limited due to the nature of your job. As of now, I am only seeing consult in the hospital and the care given to the patient is so specialized. So I have lost my capability to perform procedures.
So follow me in my journey to learn.
So follow me in my journey to learn.
